Hong Kong is quickly delving into chaos as riots and protests are continually erupting on city streets across the region. The fight for Hong Kong is about freedom for the people who are against the Chinese Communist System. Within the ranks of the protesters are thousands of Christians, on June 11th, 2019 hundreds gathered around the Legislative Council of Hong Kong not to fight but to sing, they sang “Sing Hallelujah to the Lord.”

Those hundreds of Christians, in that moment sang for the peace of their city. The sang for the bells of freedom to swing instead of the hammers of Communism. On June 11th, many could see what was about to take place, the extradition bill. According to Ginah Goh, of International Christian Concern, who was on scene; ‘among the crowd, some raised up their hands in the air as they sang. SOme knelt at the fenced entrance of the Council, saying a prayer for the city. A woman stood with a white cross in her left hand, flowers in the other held up high, as if she was using these items to defend against the anti-extradition law that was scheduled for it’s second reading the next day.’

The song itself is Hong Konger’s deepest cry for freedom. The weight of the song can be felt in the video below. The Christians that night sang for hours without ceasing. As Ginah noted, three hours passed and the Christians continued to sing endlessly.

To this day, many in Hong Kong’s fight for freedom are Christians, they stand against Communism and are still holding on.
